How to calculate the value of your hand.

In a game of Blackjack the suits (spades, clubs, hearts, and diamonds) are of no importance, each suit is valued equally. Therefore, the value of any particular hand is obviously the combined value of all the cards according the card values listed above. It is important to note that the ace is always valued at 1 or 11, it will always take upon the value that makes the best hand. A hand that contains an ace valued at 11 is known as a “soft hand”, and a hand containing an Ace valued at 1 is known as a “hard Hand”.

Who Wins

If the value of your hand exceeds the value of the dealer’s hand without going over 21 you win. In the case where a player and dealer tie nobody wins, this situation is known as a push or a stand off.

Natural Blackjack

If the first two cards dealt to a player consist of an ace and a card valuing 10, this is known as a “Blackjack” or a “Natural” and the player automatically wins, unless the dealer also has a Blackjack. Typically a Blackjack plays the player 1.5 to 1.

The Deal

In a game of Blackjack the players must wager before the cards are dealt. In most online casinos a player is dealt two cards facing up, and the dealer is dealt one card facing up, and the other facing down. If playing multi player Blackjack the dealer will start the deal with the player to his left and repeat this process again so that the players each have two cards. It is important to note that the player to the dealers left will also play their hand first. At this point a player must decide upon one of the following options:

Hit
Stand
Surrender
Insurance
Double Down
Even Money
Split

When all the players are finished the dealer then flips over the down card and according to a certain set of rules the dealer will hit or stand. Normally a dealer must hit if the value of a hand is 16 or lower, and will stand at 17 or higher.
